  • 1851 Haddonfield NJ Hicksite Friends Meeting. When the followers of Elias Hicks found they could no longer share space with traditional Friends, they built their own houses of worship. By 1954 the Friends in Haddonfield had reunited, thus freeing this building for recycling into a supermarket.

  • 1882 Methodist Episcopal Meetinghouse, Atlantic Highlands NJ. The area started as a northern alternative to Ocean Grove; 300 acres were purchased, a syndicate put together, and this was one of the original places of worship. The congregation replaced it in 1896, upon which it was converted to a residence.

  • 1727 Upper Springfield Friends, near Wrightstown NJ. One of the oldest extant religious structures in New Jersey, it was abandoned early in the 20th century, and fallen into ruin. Patriotic fervor surrounding the Bicentennial in 1976 led to a National Register listing, and subsequent restoration into a private residence.

  • 1869 St James Episcopal, Delaware NJ. Sparks and cinders from a passing train torched and destroyed the original church in 1866; thus this building was erected, on the "upwind" side of the railroad. Whilst it was saved from fire, the fire went out in the congregation by 1961. Converted to a residence in 1986 it appears unoccupied and barely maintained.

  • 1851 Presbyterian, Johnsonburg NJ. While it's no longer the county seat, Johnsonburg is still a center of government, for Freylinghusen Twp. The Presbyterians left for greener pastures in the 1880s; over time the building was the grange hall, offices and a school. Since 1956 it's been the township office.
